From a lower, warmer block, and a parcel that get set aside for the top flight cabernet expression from Jono Koerner’s Gullyview Estate wines. A mix of larger and much larger (foudre) oak used for maturation.
There’s a lusty, lush feel to this wine, plush at yet medium weight, a fog of purple fruit and choc-mint scent, ribbons of supple tannin, a long, open weave finish. Wild forest berries tumble with panforte and alpine herbs, a dash of Aussie bush in there, a rasp of nutmeg and dusty clove. It feels well judged in its elements, lip-smacking rich but cool at the same time. It spreads nicely, if not roundly, and the wine stains the palate gently for a length. A welcoming red of pedigree.
