This is the Jono Koerner project, Gullyview Estate, reaching a new zenith. Four rows of vines at a higher part of the vineyard, planted on limestone soils. The fruit is a-grade gear, hand selected, hand picked fruit gets a press and some TLC. A portion goes to amphora.
Lemon blossom opens, mixed citrus peel follows, preserved lime, yes, and a gentle lick of ginger sewn in. Intense yet racy, compact and chalky with fine, frisky veins and bones of pink grapefruit and crushed slate. There’s real power here, a near neck-snapping degree of refreshment factor. Great shape; a dart-like thrust through the palate. Delivers on the promise of variety and place and throws in the kitchen sink. Steel and all. A super expression.
